What is the NJ Mahjong League?
The NJ Mahjong League is a team-based American Mahjong league designed to bring together players for friendly competition, community, and fun! Teams compete in weekly matches throughout the season, culminating in an end-of-season Championship Playoff.When does the league start?

Depending on how the dates fall, 6-8 weeks.How many players are on a team?
Teams consist of 2-4 players. Each week, 2 players from your roster will compete.How does a match work?
Each match is 2 hours and features your team playing across 1 table against another team.What rules will be used?
League play will follow standard National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) rules and incorporate tournament rules.What are the divisions?
Teams will be grouped according to skill level (Advanced Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced)Can I register if I’m a beginner?
Absolutely! The league has a dedicated Advanced Beginner Division so newer players can compete against others at a similar experience level.How experienced do I need to be for the Advanced Beginner Division?
“Advanced Beginner” level is for people who already know how to play independently but are newer to competitive play

Placement is based on self-reported experience and the League reserves the right to adjust divisions for competitive balance.What if my team has players of different skill levels?
Teams should register for the division that most accurately reflects the overall playing level of the team. Final division placement may be adjusted to help create the most competitive and enjoyable matchups.Do all 2-4 players need to play every week?
No. Your roster can include up to 4 players, but only 2 players compete in each weekly match, giving teams some flexibility with scheduling.Do I need to register with a full team?
League registration is currently structured around teams of 2-4 players.What if our team can’t field 2 players for a match?
Subs are allowed but you can roster a team up to 4 players which should allow for some flexibilityCan we add or replace a player after the season begins?
You may replace a player for player after the season begins, but another player cannot be added to the roster.What happens if there aren’t enough teams in my region or divisions?
If we are unable to fill a division, we will happily refund your registration feeDo players need their own NMJL card?
Each player should bring their own NMJL card to matchesHow are standings determined?
Scores will be recorded and tracked throughout the season. Regular-season results will determine advancement to the Championship Playoff.Will there be playoffs?
Yes! The season will culminate in an end-of-season Championship Playoff.How do teams qualify for the Championship Playoff?
Placement in the league will depend on your match results which will be aggregated by the end of the season. The top 2 teams will enter into the playoffs.
